Colorado or Bust!

We went to Colorado this week. The whole family except Jeff. It was wonderful. The first day we drove straight through to Estes Park. We stayed at these wonderful new cabins called Solitude. There were giant rocks for the kids to play on. (like in the picture)

The second day, we relaxed, shopped downtown, ate at a weird Mexican food place (not Tex Mex) and pretty much took it easy. We ate dinner at the Twin Owls. I don't reccommend it. The presentation was gorgeous, however, the taste was not too swuft as mom would say.

Day three took us through Rocky Mountain National Park. We went to the top, but the pass was closed. there was a lot of snow. We saw a Magpie, elk, mule deer and stopped where we fed chipmunks as kids.

Next we drove to Central City. We ate Pizza in an old saloon while mom played slots and won $200! We went to the cabin in Idaho Springs. The people who own it now let us look around and even climb up to the cave where we used to hang out. The Clark boys know all about this place. I will post a picture. It was very special as Dad's family had owned it from 1919 or so until the 1980's. It was like going back in time. Wonderful! This was one of Dad's greatest wishes, to see it again.

Echo lake a few miles up the road was in its most glorious beauty. Snow around the edges and magnificent views. We took 103 all the way to Evergreen and ate at the famous El Rancho. Much better food.

Day 4 we relaxed again. Mark and the kids hiked to Bear Lake. Angela and I cooked on the grill, made hamburgers, guacamole, dip, and brownies. We let the guys watch the sad Texas Tech/Texas game. Later, mom , Ang, Emily and I went shopping some more. We saw Doug Fox/Chanel 8 news at Starbucks. He told us we should eat at the Dunraven Inn .....so we did. Excellent food, but be sure you make reservations!

Yesterday, we drove home and made it in 13.5 hours. Not too shabby. Tpday dad is at the radiation oncologist setting up his treatment schedule.

Kids are at school and I am cleaning up the messes :-)

Wow it's great to be home!!
